The unmissable event

In 12 years, Academia Christiana has become a must-see for young Catholics seeking to engage in society. Several thousand young people have passed through our ranks.

Coming from all over France to train, these are high school students, university students and young families who meet at the summer university to train and think about their future.

But there are also young people from Europe and Canada who join the summer university!

a real crossroads

More than just a summer university, it's also a crossroads or meeting platform where all walks of life and all schools of spiritual and political thought intersect. You'll meet priests from different communities, as well as political and community figures (local elected officials, teachers, writers, journalists, activists, etc.) from our movement of thought in the broadest sense.

courses and workshops

The summer university system allows for the organization of more than twenty courses and workshops over a week, which represents a truly comprehensive training course for those who attend it in its entirety.

The course topics are varied and each year focus on a new theme: faith, identity, community, the sacred, beauty, ecology, virtues, Christianity, etc.

In addition to the major thematic conferences, academics can choose between different workshops:

  • the fundamentals of political philosophy: common good, subsidiarity, natural law...

  • current topics in political science: ecology, liberalism, capitalism, corporatism, degrowth, school, identity...

  • the fundamentals of the catechism: faith, prayer, the sacraments, the existence of God

  • skills serving the common good: communicating on social networks, organizing a show, running for local elections, starting a circle...

  • testimonies from former academics on professions or commitments: winegrower, farmer, craftsman, writer...

The speakers are writers, community workers, university professors and religious figures.

The level of the lectures is adapted (as far as possible) to all levels: a high school student in their second year of high school will probably have to hang on a bit to grasp all the issues of a theme and a doctoral student may find that the content is slightly popularized.

Sport

Our intellectual and spiritual formation would be incomplete if it did not also provide times when the body puts itself to the test. For a year we have been offering boxing lessons for all levels, and especially for beginners. This is an opportunity to learn or rediscover the taste of gentle physical effort.

Spiritual life

Academia Christiana is a Catholic summer school. Our chaplain Abbé Nicolas Télisson of the Fraternité Saint Pierre is present all week on the premises and is available to confess on request. Every morning a low mass takes place in the extraordinary form of the Roman rite (in Latin), participation in this office is of course based on voluntary service.

accommodation

Accommodation is possible in two ways:

• In a collective room (two to five beds per room). The rooms have single beds without sheets or towels. For specific requests (family room) you will have to make a request to the organizers: academiachristiana@live.fr .

• In a personal tent: we provide smaller budgets with a campsite with showers, so you have to bring your tent and sleeping bag.

the timetable

The first conference is at 9:30 a.m. (a low mass and breakfast are offered from 8:15 a.m.).

The second conference of the morning is at 11am.

After lunch, a participatory workshop takes place followed by a sports session.

The afternoon is free from 5 p.m. until the last conference from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The bar opens after dinner.

Academia Christiana is not an addition of individuals but seeks to federate a community around shared values. Every evening a bar is open offering cocktails or beers (and also soft drinks). This is an opportunity to meet after a day of training to discuss and create friendships.

CONVIVIALITY

How much does it cost?

The price of the summer school does not fully cover all our expenses but only your accommodation costs and your meals. Academia Christiana has other expenses that are not covered by your registration: communication, expenses of speakers, room rentals, purchase of equipment to film and record conferences, militant equipment...

The rate offered to students is well below the actual cost of their participation in the event, so that the price is not an obstacle to their training.

Don't hesitate to help us by making a donation:

At our place, everything is homemade!

Meals are prepared by a team of volunteers, fruits and vegetables are purchased from local market gardeners who grow without pesticides or chemical fertilizers. The meat comes from a cooperative of local breeders (les éleveurs de la Charentonne).

Can we come as a family?

For about 4 years, more and more families have been coming with their children to Academia Christiana. We set up a nursery to allow them to leave their children during the conferences. Rooms are also equipped to accommodate families according to their needs.

Are there any hidden fees?

On site we provide you with a number of paid services:

- drinks at the bar (you pay at the bar with tokens purchased at the secretariat)

- activities such as paintball offered during the week

- books from the library

- T-shirts and other derivative products sold on site

How to become a volunteer?

Academia Christiana is not just a one-off meeting, we offer our participants the opportunity to get involved in a collective project supported by our association. All talents are expected (translation, writing, project launch, communication, webmastering, teaching, etc.). Academia Christiana is a call to commitment within the framework of a political community.

What is the Academia Christiana line?

Academia Christiana is not a doctrinal school but rather a laboratory of ideas. We base ourselves on the doctrinaire corpus of Aristotle and Saint Thomas Aquinas, but we wish to open a door to all authors by never taking the thought of a philosopher for an absolute. We invite our participants to exercise critical thinking while acquiring a Thomistic intellectual backbone.

teamwork

By coming to Academia Christiana you come to commit yourself. During our summer university we try to highlight models of commitment through small things: social and rooted militancy, individual proposals to live in coherence with one's ideas, writing articles for friendly magazines, creation of a circle of conference in his region, political commitment for a local election, launching of solidarity projects for our militant community, development of free education...

Can everyone come?

The vast majority of our participants are young people between the ages of 18 and 30. For the past two years, we have had more and more high school students from the second class onwards, but also more and more young families who come to spend the week with their children at the summer school. All are not necessarily practicing Catholics or even baptized, the important thing being to respect the framework in which one is welcomed.

Human formation

Academia Christiana is not a variation of the “club med” Catholic version! Arriving at Academia Christiana you will not set foot under the table. Our project is intended to be a call to self-sacrifice and to the generosity of everyone. During the summer school, everyone pitches in to help out: washing up, setting the table, cleaning...

Since we cannot pretend to govern anything if we do not already know how to govern ourselves, we expect participants to show seriousness: sobriety and moderation in drinking, exemplary and respectful behavior (silence during conferences, turn off your mobile phone), attendance and punctuality at activities, etc.  Academia Christiana will authorize itself to exclude any person who does not respect these elementary principles of etiquette and common decency.
